rounding out the day (almost) with a mind clearing blog post

today i have strained long and hard staring at the screen for my futures essay. this blog post aims to externalise some of the stress i am feeling before i go back to it later this evening. first and foremost, i feel my attachment to the previous work i have done in this subject is a disadvantage, and with little time left now until the essay is due, i will have to move past the initial work quickly in order to focus more deeply on the traits that deserve primary focus in this second piece,  – nationalistic and heathen influences present in norwegian back metal subculture.

danielle has suggested a plan of how she would like the essay to be mapped out – and today i have made ground in setting up my essay to meet this criteria, however it is now time to integrate the new content necessary for this second essay, which will give my arguments shape and solidification.

ultimately i would like to write about specific bands (enslaved and burzum) and the way they have portrayed heathenism and nationalism in their music, cultural practices and visual representations. there is however, disjointedness in getting to these arguments due to the section i currently have included after my introduction about the relationship between black metal subculture and the broader metal culture of which it is a part. i can’t help but feel the need to continue editing and perfecting these two introductory sections before moving forward, which is hurting the campaign. i continuously get stumped finding a way to tie the second section together with what i intend to be the third (the musical analysis and application). i know the best option is to just get on with it and focus on applying the references and the theory to the body paragraphs (third section) – and adjusting my introductory words accordingly. this is what i aim to do tonight.

once i have a loosely drafted beginning, middle and end for this essay in futures i feel that i will be able to more easily focus on the many other important assessment tasks that are approaching, such as the folio (due monday), the presentation at ceres (on wednesday) and the precursor project (due in next friday), before eventually tackling the extended lit review for research strategies – which i believe will be a great lead in to next semester.

its time to be brutal and cut out the waffle in this essay. heres to going to bed feeling good tonight!
