To commence proceedings..

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Simon Wood, and I am an Honours Student from the school of Media and Communication at RMIT, whose specialist discipline is in the contemporary music industry.

For my honours study in 2013, I will largely be exploring the ‘full length album‘ in it’s many forms (Vinyl, Tapes, CD, Downloads).

By researching the development of the ‘full length album’ over the past 30-40 years, exploring the idea of ‘concept albums’ and using the music and career of ‘Prince‘ and the cult-like following of his audience as a case study, it is my hope that I will be able to generate some suggestions as to whether the ‘full length album’ will continue to perpetuate itself into the future, or reach the potential demise that many theorists have speculated in recent years.
